My grandson is due at the end of May, so naturally I am finding all sorts of fun things to make for him. His mama (my daughter) is a Shark Week fanatic and has been ever since the show started in 1988 when she was five.
In honor of her love of Shark Week, I made Shark Baby from Simplicity 8568. It is a one-size pattern with multiple items, including shark and mermaid play suits/costumes, a changing pad, and a baby 'nest' that looks like a Dock-a-Tot type thing.
Easy pattern, directions were pretty good for someone familiar with sewing and how garments go together. I'm not sure the hat construction would be clear to a new sewist, though. I feel like had I followed the directions, the fin would have ended up going the wrong way.
Not sure I'll make this again, as one shark baby is probably enough--but I may try the baby nest.
Here is my sewingpatternreview.com entry for this project.

I used 100% cotton gray and white spotted flannel for the playsuit and hat exterior and 100% cotton red flannel for the hat lining. The fins are high loft batting, the teeth and eyes are felt that I appliqued on (pattern just called for fusing them on, but I thought it looked sloppy). the hat has a self casing and I used small gauge welt cording for the hat string (pattern called for ribbon).
