Antique Store Finds

Don't you just love it when you find a real treasure when you weren't even looking for one? My sister and her family were visiting from Arizona and while we were killing time waiting for their departure flight we stopped at Antiques Minnesota.

I have always wanted an antique treadle sewing machine. I love the cabinetry and the older, all metal machines are workhorses!  Back in a far corner of the antique store, I found a very dirty old Singer machine still in it's original cabinet. The machine still works--just needs a new treadle cord ($11.99 online).

It was filthy and, of course, I forgot to take 'before' pictures, but here is what the cabinet looks like with a good washing and some Restore (from Home Depot):

Here it is with the machine (serial number G6583935, model/class #27, built in 1910):

The serial number was covered in decades of machine oil and even after I got that off, it was pretty worn down.  To lift it, I had to use some artist's charcoal and then press a kneaded eraser onto the surface. Worked like a charm and I was able to pick up the entire number in reverse.

Obviously, it needs some TLC, but for $50 I couldn't not buy it--although I'm sure my brother-in-law and nephew who had to help me wedge it into the backseat of my Hyundai Elantra would have preferred me to use some restraint.

And totally random, but also really cute thing I found and don't need at all--a wicker pram-style planter:
