Newest Handknit Project--'Rebecca' Sweater in Summer Weight by Melissa Leapman

This summer-weight knit cardi is adapted from Melissa Leapman's 'Rebecca' sweater found in Cardigans and Closures.  I used a DK weight yarn (Naturally Caron Spa in color 0002 Coral Lipstick)* instead of worsted weight because I wanted a more delicate, summer looking garment.  To achieve the correct gauge, I had to use smaller needles and made it one size larger than I normally would.

This was a very simple pattern overall, although I think the designer made the sleeve/shoulder join much more complicated than necessary. I might try it again in worsted weight for a winter version and skip some of the shaping at the shoulder.

I used my tried and true Signature knitting needles for this project, but actually think they may be a bit too slippery for a lace pattern in DK weight like this. Signatures are an investment, but if you can see your way clear to even getting a single pair of circulars in a size you use often, it is well worth the cost, in my opinion. Over time, I've collected an entire set of the circulars (not as thrilled with the straights--to heavy for me) buying one pair every time I've had a little extra cash to spare. I really like the 'stiletto' points option.

For this pattern, next time around, I'll try using my Hiya Hiya bamboo interchangeables, which I also love. It is hard to find US retailers that carry Hiya Hiya, but there are a number of resellers on eBay and Etsy that offer good prices.

*Sadly, this whole line (including Country and Joy) is being discontinued. I really liked it and there are some great closeout deals for remainders at Herrschners and Mary Maxim right now.
